Does Oily Skin Still Need Moisturizer? An Indian-Climate Guide

17 Sep 2026 0 comments

Yes. Oily skin produces more sebum, but oil and water are not the same thing. Skin can look shiny while still feeling tight or uncomfortable after cleansing, air conditioning, travel or the use of drying acne products.

The aim is not to coat the face heavily. It is to choose a comfortable texture and use an amount that supports the routine without feeling greasy.

Why skipping moisturiser can be unhelpful

Moisturisers reduce water loss by combining ingredients that attract water, soften the skin surface or form a light protective layer. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that moisturiser works by trapping water in the skin and advises people with acne-prone skin to look for “oil free” or “non-comedogenic” labels.

Glaamorr Oil-Free Moisturizer is currently labelled oil-free, non-comedogenic, light and non-sticky. Its package lists hyaluronic acid, glycerin, calendula extract and five essential ceramides. These are product-label facts; individual comfort and results can vary.

Signs your oily skin may still want hydration

  • tightness after face washing;
  • flaky areas around the nose or mouth;
  • discomfort after time in air conditioning;
  • makeup catching on dry patches;
  • sensitivity after using strong acne or exfoliating products.

Persistent irritation or a changing rash needs professional assessment rather than simply adding more cosmetics.

How much should you use?

Start with a small amount and spread a thin layer over clean skin. Applying to slightly damp skin can help retain surface water, provided the product directions allow it. Add a little more only where the skin feels dry instead of applying a thick, uniform layer automatically.

In hot or humid weather, a lighter morning layer may feel best. In an air-conditioned office or during a dry winter, you may prefer a little more at night. Your routine can change with the season without changing your skin type label.

Where it fits in the routine

Morning

  1. cleanser;
  2. serum, if used;
  3. oil-free moisturiser;
  4. sunscreen.

Evening

  1. cleanser;
  2. treatment or serum, if used and tolerated;
  3. oil-free moisturiser.

If sunscreen already feels moisturising enough in the morning, some people may prefer to reserve a separate moisturiser for evening. The best routine is the one that is comfortable and sustainable.

The practical answer

Oily skin can still benefit from moisturiser. Choose a light, oil-free, non-comedogenic option, start with a small amount and adjust for humidity, air conditioning and the rest of your routine.
