How to Minimise Large Pores: What Actually Works for Indian Skin

How to reduce pores Indian skin

Large pores are one of the most searched skincare concerns in India. And while the bad news is that you can’t permanently shrink your pores (pore size is largely genetic), the good news is that you can make them appear dramatically smaller — and keep them cleaner, clearer, and less visible with the right routine.

Why Pores Look Large

Pores appear larger when they’re clogged with sebum, dead skin cells, and dirt — which stretches them open. In oily Indian skin, excess sebum production means pores are constantly being filled. Lack of proper cleansing, skipping exfoliation, and using heavy products that clog pores all make the problem worse.

Sun damage also enlarges pores over time — UV rays break down collagen around pore walls, causing them to lose their structure and sag open. This is why daily SPF is part of pore management, not just an anti-ageing step.

What Actually Minimises Pore Appearance

Niacinamide

Niacinamide at 5% is the most well-researched ingredient for reducing pore visibility. It regulates sebum production (less oil = less clogging = smaller-looking pores) and strengthens the skin around pores, helping them appear tighter. Results are visible in 4–6 weeks of consistent use.

Gentle Exfoliation

Regular exfoliation removes the dead skin cells and debris that clog and enlarge pores. Chemical exfoliants (AHAs like Lactic Acid, BHAs like Salicylic Acid) work better than physical scrubs for most skin types. Once or twice a week is sufficient.

Double Cleansing at Night

One of the most effective (and underused) techniques for pore management: use a cleansing oil or micellar water first to dissolve sebum and sunscreen, then follow with your foaming cleanser. This two-step process removes far more from pores than single cleansing alone.

Avoid: Heavy creams, coconut oil, and pore-clogging ingredients (look for “non-comedogenic” on labels). These settle into pores and make them appear larger.
